4 At Home Face Masks To Try Now!

Are you looking for some great at home face masks?  Imagine being able to have soft and glowing skin without having to spend a fortune on beauty products.  With a few ingredients, you can give yourself an at home facial treatment that will leave your skin glowing.  An at home face mask is a great way to keep your skin glowing, without the extreme cost of a professional facial.  Facial masks come in a variety of types, it depends on the results you’re looking for.  They can range from facial masks meant to draw impurities from the skin, eliminate dead skin cells and even tighten and tone the skin.

Masks should be applied to clean skin for 10 minutes to a maximum of 30 minutes, depending on the type of mask you use.  For example, clay-based masks are used for oily-skin and combination skin types and should never be on your skin for longer than 15 minutes otherwise the mask can dry your skin out more than necessary. On the opposite end, some hydrating masks used for drier skin types can be used as overnight treatments.

  1. Clay Masks

Clay masks more often contain kaolin clay, a natural component found in the soil.  Kaolin is known for its efficiency in absorbing oil, drawing out impurities and dirt from pores, minimizing the appearance of pores and removing layers of dead skin cells.  Clay masks tend to be used as target masks, primarily used on the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), or for acne-prone and oily skin types.

  1. Hydrating Masks

Hydrating masks do exactly as the name implies: they hydrate.  Hydrating masks soothe and nourish the skin, adding a super-boost of moisture and hydration to otherwise dry skin.  On combination skin, hydrating masks are focused primarily on the U-zone (cheeks and temples).  Hydrating masks also come in a variety of peel-off forms nowadays, which are a great treat for cooling the skin.

At-Home Face Masks for all Skin Types

At home face masks are a great way to use natural and organic ingredients on our skin.  Making our own at home, we will be able see and feel the benefits immediately and our skin will smell delicious.  The following 4 recipes are different at home face masks for different skin types.

  1. Banana Mask for a Radiant Complexion

The vitamins in bananas are known to improve your overall complexion and smooth out your skin. To make this soothing face mask that works on oily skin, you will need:

1 banana, preferably a ripe one

2 tablespoons honey

1 orange or lemon.

Mash up the banana then, mix in the honey, and add a few drops of orange or lemon juice.  Apply all over for at least 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Be sure to remove all traces of mask, using more warm water if necessary.  Once clean, apply your everyday moisturizer.

  1. Avocado Mask for Dry Skin

Considered one of the healthiest foods on the planet, avocados are not only enjoyed for a wonderful, creamy flavor but also for its healing properties. Avocados are full of good fats that supply our body with the oil it needs to stay lubricated.  The good oil from the avocados will seep into your pores, nourishing and providing moisture to dry skin.

For a soothing, deeply nourishing avocado face mask, you will need:

1 tablespoon mashed avocado

1 tablespoon mashed banana

1 teaspoon olive oil

1 tablespoon orange juice.

Mash the avocado and banana together, add in the olive oil and orange juice together.  Mix until they form a smooth paste.  Apply the mask carefully, avoiding the eye area and leave on for 15 minutes.  Rinse skin with warm water, removing all traces of the mask before applying moisturizer.

  1. Pineapple Papaya Mask for Brightening

Our skin goes through a lot of changes over time and the daily wear and tear of the environment can leave our skin looking not so perfect.  Sun damage, especially, can cause sun spots and blotches on the face that get in the way of a radiant complexion.

Pineapple and papaya are two enzymatic fruits that eat away at dead skin cells and reduce the appearance of fine lines and sun or age spots. Pineapple has a lot of the enzyme bromelain, which helps to remove the outer layers of the skin to reduce the signs of sun damage and wrinkles. Papaya contains natural alpha-hydroxy acids and high levels of papain, an enzyme that helps to dissolve dead skin cells.

You will need:

½ fresh papaya, peeled and seeded

1 cup of fresh pineapple

1 tablespoon honey.

Mash the papaya and pineapple together as much as you can, getting as close to a paste as possible.  Avoiding the eye area, apply the mask all over your face and wait 10-15 minutes before removing.  You will most likely feel a tingly and itchy sensation, this is the AHA’s doing their thing – do not scratch.  Rinse with warm water and a washcloth and apply moisturizer.

  1. Cinnamon, Honey and Nutmeg Mask for Acne-Prone Skin

Acne-prone skin tends to experience inflammation more than any other skin type.  An excess of oil production combined with large pores cause significant irritation to the skin. Fortunately this mask soothes acne scars, reduces swelling and redness in skin and aids in preventing infection.

Nutmeg and honey are natural anti-inflammatory ingredients and the combination of nutmeg and cinnamon work to exfoliate your skin as you wash the mask off.  Honey has the added benefit of being a natural humectant so you will retain moisture better.

You’ll need:

2 tablespoons of honey

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Combine the ingredients together, mixing to achieve a thick paste.  Apply all over your skin, avoiding the eye area and allow it to set for 30 minutes. Wash off with warm water, scrubbing softly in a circular motion for gentle exfoliation before rinsing completely and applying moisturizer.

Using a mask is one of the steps of a good skincare regimen.  Facial masks blanket the skin, helping the active ingredients penetrate deeper into the layers of skin, that basic cleansing can’t reach.  Natural at home face masks are a great way to treat your skin and stay budget-friendly.
