One in five women between the ages of 25 and 40 suffer from adult acne. Stress, cosmetics, hormones and birth control pills can all contribute to the onset of adult acne. Excessive sebum, bacteria-laden pores, hormones, and birth control pills with high levels of androgen are a perfect environment for acne to develop. The products you used as a teen may prove ineffective on adult acne. Find a medicated cleaner and exfoliant that contains salicylic acid to clean out pores and remove dead skin cells. Products that contain benzoyl peroxide help to reduce bacteria on skin as well.
One home remedy that may be useful for treating adult acne is washing the face with apple cider vinegar. The healing properties of this liquid are widely known, but you may not have thought to try it on your face. You can apply it all over your face with a cotton pad, wait 3-5 minutes, and rinse. The vinegar may sting a little when first applied – and the smell is a bit pungent, but it will normally dry up your pimples in a relatively short period of time.
